The Institute for Economic Growth recently convened a workshop on "Anti-Bribery and Anti-Fraud” on Friday, 20th December 2024 at V.K.R.V Rao Room, IEG (Delhi).
Addressing corruption in India, Professor Abha Yadav from the National Law University, Delhi, delivered a presentation on the framework for tackling corruption within India. Her presentation emphasised the critical need for stronger institutional compliance by fostering a culture of ethics and integrity within organisations, even in the face of potential loopholes. She also provided an understanding of the distinction between fraud and anti-bribery by recognising the unique characteristics and implications of each type of misconduct. Prof. Yadav also discussed the challenges in government processes, including procurement processes, and the need to implement robust safeguards to prevent corruption, given the increased vulnerabilities in the digital age.
Ms Nupoor Singh, Senior Editor at Springer Nature, provided valuable insights into "Anti-Fraud and Ethics in Academics." Key takeaways included the importance of research integrity, from data collection and analysis to publication. She addressed the rise of academic misconduct, identifying and discussing the various ways of mitigating the growing prevalence of plagiarism, data falsification, and authorship issues. Discussing the complexities of publishing ethics, Ms Nupoor guided researchers through the ethical considerations and best practices in academic publishing, including the responsible use of AI in research.
This workshop provided a crucial platform for researchers, faculty, and other stakeholders to engage in critical discussions on ethical conduct and explore strategies for combating corruption and maintaining the highest standards of integrity in both academic and professional settings.
