Dr. Rupa Kumar Kolli, Co-Principal Investigator of the Chhanw project, delivered a presentation on 'Early Warning: Climate Knowledge and Services for Early Action' at the inaugural GHHIN Southeast Asia Heat Health Forum in Singapore (January 7-10, 2025). The forum, which convened 250 experts, launched the regional Southeast Asia Hub and focused on critical heat health strategies. Dr. Kolli's presentation emphasised the importance of climate information in supporting decision-making and the role of effective early warning systems in mitigating climate-related risks, particularly heat. He highlighted the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) and its potential support for disaster risk reduction, showcasing the urgent need for enhanced regional and national capacities in climate services. His presentation underlined the importance of cascading climate information to the local levels, and the importance of impact-based forecasting. In Southeast Asia, improving regional climate services, implementing early warning systems, and fostering collaboration are crucial for translating climate knowledge into actionable solutions at both national and local levels.
